SUN 11 DEC 05
FRY CLUB COLTS 3
SALTFORD STARS 1
At long
last, a home fixture! A crisp sunny autumn day gave us the perfect setting for
our local derby.
Good
pressure in the opening 5 minutes gave us the advantage and from a long
clearance from Brad Monelle up the pitch to James Boulton, who held the ball to set up Oli
Randall. Oli then executed a perfect chip shot over
the Saltford keeper to put us 1-0 up. However, we didn’t have the first half
all our own way as Saltford began to create chances and it wasn’t long before
they replied through a similar well taken shot to level 1-1. James Hurrell
Smith and Michael Payne had their work cut for the rest of the half as we
struggled to regain sustained possession. However, good work down our wide
channels with Dean Lapham and Kyle Curtis gave us
good outlets to build on.
Craig
Andrews had decided to rejoin us this season and his debut proved successful as
he began to impose himself on the Saltford defence. Both Brad Monelle and in particular James Boulton
were beginning to dominate the movement up front but it was from a free kick 25
yards out that Craig Andrews put us in front with a quite brilliant free kick
over the wall, and keeper, into the top left corner. A third goal soon came
from James Boulton who thoroughly deserved his strike
as he secured the 3 points for Frys.
Although Saltford are bottom with their only win coming against us at their ground, they certainly gave a good account of themselves and do not deserve to be bottom.
Once again
there were good performances from our squad, in particular Craig Francis in
goal, James Hurrell Smith, Oli Randall and James Boulton. However the Man of the Match award this week went
to Michael Payne for a much improved performance from the previous game.
